Black Tea and Health
Tea is a truly global drink, which is enjoyed both hot and iced because of its ability to refresh and relax the mind and body. Previously, tea was used because of its medical qualities only. Black tea is the most common form of tea. Mostly people around the world use black tea as a drink. The antioxidants and flavonoids in tea help to maintain healthy tissues and cells as well as contribute to healthy cardiovascular function. Various studies indicate that a few cups of tea a day may improve heart function, increase bone density, and even help prevent cancer. Another research revealed that blood flow benefit occurred fairly quickly from drinking black tea. In this study men and women who drank black tea experienced improved and better blood flow in their coronary arteries only after a few hours of drinking tea. Besides having practically no calories, no fat and no salt, two cups of true tea are as rich in flavonoids as a serving of vegetables. Tea consumption also decreases the risk for cardiovascular events.
It is found that black tea consumption is associated with a reduced risk of stroke and heart disease. Tea antioxidants may help reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke by maintaining the health of circulatory system of veins and arteries and reduce the risk of blood clots. Scientists believe that oxidative damage can contribute to the development of chronic diseases such as heart disease.
Recent research suggested that regular tea drinking slowed down the risk of diseases such as heart diseases and cancers. Black tea consumption also lowers bad cholesterol levels which helps in reducing the chance of heart disease. Numerous studies have suggested that regular consumption of black tea is protective against a host of human cancers. Black tea contains a compound called Theaflavin-3-Monogallate (TF-2), which is one of a family of anti-cancer compounds called Polyphenols.
More and more people have started consuming tea due to its high antioxidant content. Antioxidants are compounds, which potentially protect against diseases. Tea is also rich in antioxidant plant compound called flavonoids and it's widely believed that it prevents damaged body cells, which results in cancer. According to a study, the amounts of antioxidants in two cups of tea is equal to the amount in eight glasses of orange juice.
Black tea also contains vitamin C and E and Astringent, which fight the free radicals that can cause premature aging. Astringent helps in toning lips; and perking up the complexion. Later studies show that tea may help lower blood sugar. Researchers are investigating the rejuvenative and relaxing properties of tea, as well as it's potential to stimulate alertness and mental performance.
